Pepperboy “A Silent Technique” (2010)
Just catching up on the clenched-jaw-raps of Little Rock MC, Pepperboy, who’s track, “Tha Parts,” provides the beat for “My Life” off of Lil B’s forthcoming Bitch Mob tape.
“A Silent Technique” is another record from last year’s One Moe Nite album, and has decidedly trap production (c.f., 16th note hats, ratchet snares and 808s), but adds in an ominous, minor key piano loop that sounds closer to something on a Scarface record or Beats By The Pound, than Drumma Boy or Lex Luger.
The video, much like that of “A Whole Lotta White,” is on some backyard “Predator”/”Commando” imagery, and though Pepperboy is deliberate with his rhymes, the sludgey, woozy pace of “A Silent Technique” is the pace at which he works best. And sure, “Raw is war spelled backwards” isn’t going to have the Okayplayer set jocking his lyrical ability, but that’s not the point — this is neighborhood sniper music.
