K-Rino “Who Is This” (2011, Black Book International)

Still largely overlooked close to 28 years after appearing on Houston’s underground rap scene, South Park Coalition founder K-Rino released what is (I think) his 20th solo record, Alien Baby, in February, to mostly deaf ears.

“Who Is This” (or “Who’s Is This according to the video) is about infidelity and where responsibility for those actions fall in the minds of the people involved. These themes have been covered by other southern rap stalwarts like 8Ball and Project Pat, but rather than the cool, unemotional posturing of previous artits, this track casts K-Rino as a sort of pseudo-therapist to the jilted lover.

The video is also great because (most likely due to the massive budget this was recorded on) K-Rino play both the the jilted boyfriend (with hoodie on) and the guy the girlfriend is cheating on him with (sans hoodie), and takes place in different parts of the same room of his(?) home, so the whole thing is pretty existential.
