Spaceghostpurrp- Captain Planet (Blackland Radio 66.6, 2011)
Spaceghostpurrp is a rapper/producer out of the Carol City neighborhood in Miami that has been all over my brain the last couple weeks. While he’s on that #based/Odd Future tip, working with Odd Future (and having Syd drop his tracks in her sets) and Kreayshawn, Purrp is sort of the West Coast rap weirdo shit filtered through a distinctly Southern vibe. While he’s not the best rapper (though certainly serviceable), he crafts some monster beats that exist in the same hazy world as DJ Screw and old Three 6 Mafia. Tape hiss all over the place, atmospheric samples, knocking drums and huge bass. He’s dropped a bunch of shit recently, including a Purrp’d and Chopped tape which consists entirely of screwed and chopped versions of things like Earl tracks. Definitely a dude worth watching for.
