are lil b & young l's S.S. mixtapes worth listening to? i've been trying to get more young l material (sans lil uno/stunnaman), but don't have anything outside of loose tracks with B and his L-E-N mixtape. i know he's also has the young squad, but did they even ever release a full project? anyways, i know those mixtapes are dated (2007, right?) and i'd rather hear a mixtape by them made more recently, but idk, i never really got into L's stuff (II).

The SS tapes are interesting from a certain standpoint. While they are kind of dated and don’t really have that same strung-out insanity that L & B have been producing these days, they do have a lot of post-hyphy bangers and some more “traditional” weirdness to them. It’s closer to the Pack than to #based, but the Pack was awesome.

I agree that L’s stuff can be difficult to get into. While unique and interesting, at some point his sound can become monotonous. I like robotic knocks and video game sounds as much as the next guy, but at some point I need some variation. However, he has been on a serious winning streak as of late (case in point: “Overdrive”). His rapping, or at least his lyrical content, has gotten more interesting as of late too (that whole “One Deep/Embrace-the-Weirdo” shit he’s been about on “Conscious Minds” and “Overdrive”). I’m definitely looking forward to the DOMO-KUN tape that’s supposedly coming out at the end of the month.
