JiMi Jump “I Ma Mean That” (2008, Divided Souls)

Mentioned previously that Rob from Southern Hospitality had put me up on Jimi Jump’s Here’s My Resume EP which features production by the (now often discussed here) Mouse On Tha Track.

“I Ma Mean That” was actually produced by Jimi, himself, and takes it’s influences from the Northeast, favoring chopped drum breaks over handclaps and 808s, sampled horn blasts and wordless soul samples over synthesizers and call-and-response chrouses.

It shows versatility by artist who could’ve easily put together a solid release backed solely by Mouse’s minimalist club bangers and trunk rattlers. “Too Piece” / “2 Pieces (Remix)” from the same EP (covered here by Noz back around its release) is a Mouse-helmed track of digital swamp funk that’s beat-wise, like a post-millennial take on a similarly themed No Limit record.

Not sure what’s happened to JiMi since. His top search results are an outdated MySpace page and the “Too Pieces” video. The Divided Souls label URL on that MySpace page leads nowhere, though if you search a little further, you can find this page with a few more videos.

Don’t think there was ever a physical release of Here’s My Resume, and I can’t find it anywhere aside from this Discogs Store Page. Not sure a lot of people are going to drop $11.99 on a digital EP, though.
