Laroo & Turf Talk f/ E-40 “Money 2 Blow” (2011, Sick-Wid-It)
There’s so much going on in this production, and it draws from a bunch of different styles. The horn stabs are used almost like a vocal sample, the 808s give it a Bay Area bounce, there’s that bending guitar note, sitting slightly low in the mix adding urgency and a southern twinge, while skittering synths and 32nd hi hats are reminscent of an ATL street sound.
Turf Talk slips easily into a dead-on 40 flow, Laroo doesn’t stay around long enough to disappoint anyone, and the actual Earl Stevens comes through to remind you he has that “Cy Young in pitching ‘cane”.
This is good rap. From the forthcoming Sick-Wid-It Block Op.
