Husalah “On The Streets” (2009?)

somanyshrimp:

…Is everyone so cynical that we can only deal with either weirdos or traditionalists? I dunno if its all the Tupac but Im really feeling spirtually vibed out street philosophy raps these days. I mean you need to either rap about that, or be on some Beatnuts “fuck, drink beer and smoke some shit” for me to check it any more.

Agree, mostly.  But is it cynicism or just the fact that there is an under-supply of artists talented enough to deliver “spiritually vibed out street philosophy” across multiple tracks and albums (or mixtapes) like Hus (or too lazy and impatient to work at it)?

With the weirdos, when they fail on a track (which is not infrequently) at least they’re trying to do some shit no one (or only Schoolly D) has tried before, which can still be aurally interesting even when it doesn’t “work”.

And with guys like Gibbs and KRIT, the execution is there, it’s just a matter of whether or not you feel like buying into the nostalgia.  I don’t know, there’s just not that many rappers that come along that have the raw talent and *message* and delivery of Hus and manage to put that all together track to track.

Either way, the song is dope.
