Keyboard Kid- BASEDINTHERAIN666 EP (Bandcamp, 2011)
Second only to Clams Casino in the camp of exceptionally gifted #based producers, Seattle’s Keyboard Kid follows up his excellent THE MIND IS SO COMPLEX WHEN YOU’RE BASED EP with this darker, more emotional package of beats. Opener “Possession” is a straight up noise-rap banger, with a heavily screwed sample threatening to fall off the ramshackle beat at any moment. The EP’s closing track, “The Rapture”, however, is one of the most melancholy and lush things I’ve heard in quite sometime. Dark and beautiful and highly recommended. Also, happy 1000th post.
