Young L L-E-N (2010, Mixtape)
Been checking for this tape to drop throughout the day, and while I can’t exactly co-sign L on the mic (his voice has a grizzled quality about it that is kind of a decent counterpoint to the outerspace sheen of his sparse arrangements, but the rhymes…not so much), you know the beats on here are going to have plenty of that alien swag.
And even if the Young L-E-N is recycling some of his work, I’d still rather listen to some Philip K. Dick-ian slaps repurposed than more chipmunk soul and boom bap (which is the point Will was making, after all, just consider this my acknowledgement that L does like to “revisit” his own work).
And also, having “Young L-E-N”, “Drop Top Swag” and “3 16” together on the same tape is definitely a win.
