Main Attrakionz Blood Money (2010, Green Ova)
Here’s a welcome and unexpected music drop from (as you *might* be aware) a couple of our favorite rappers working right now. When MondreM.A.N. mentioned that Blood Money was coming “sooner than you think” last night on Twitter, he wasn’t kidding.
This release is a short EP from M.A.z in front of their forthcoming full-length, which I believe is called Legion Of Doom (and also a MondreM.A.N. solo tape is on the way as well…I think). Not sure who is behind the boards on these tracks, but my guess is that it’s mostly Squadda (though the “Bonus Track” that closes the tape is produced by another producer we feature regularly around here, Clams Casino).
The title track and “Sun Gone Shine” are the strongest cuts on this tape, as the former is some looping, futuristic “hood shit” with room-filling kicks, while the latter uses a synth/phaser/flanger melody that’s like a lo-fi Block Beattaz track.
And speaking of Slowmotion Sounds, I’ve told Squadda he needs to link up with G-Side, Mali and C.P., but he said he’s wholly focused on getting better as a producer and keeping everything in house. If Legion of Doom sounds like a full-length “Legion of Doom”, well…then I’ll be convinced he was right all along.
