Screwed Up Records & Tapes Facing Eviction →
The Screwed Up Records & Tapes storefront, which was leased to DJ Screw’s estate after his death, is in danger of being forced to shut down. Dr. Pondexter, the shop’s landlord, has repeatedly “hinted” at his desire to expand his dental business into the space currently occupied by the historic rap landmark, since Screw’s passing. Apparently, the owners of the...

Gunplay “Drum Squad” (2011, Maybach Music) Quick video hit from the facist-motif enthusiast slash RAWSE! foil and Triple C’s member. Track comes from the Short Fuse tape that was released just over a week ago, and compiles some previously heard Gunplay records with a few new ones, ostensibly leading up to the release of his solo debut, Valkyrie. Not sure who produced “Drum...

Tupac Back
Two “new” leaks surfaced this afternoon from The Don Killuminati:   “Watch Ya Mouth”, an infamous diss record from Pac that finds him coming at the heads of Dr. Dre, Nas and De La Soul over a decidedly East Coast blap. “New York 87”, which, as you might guess from the title, is some truly throwback ‘Pac, and features DJ Quik, Kurupt, Deadly...

Anonymous asked: Do you fux wit Black Hippy? I think that collective could possibly move major units if they got a group deal with a decent rap label.

DJ Burn One The Ashtray (Promo) It’s already been a hell of a year for instrumental releases from hip hop beatmakers, with Clams Casino’s self-titled project and araabMUZIK’s Electronic Dream being two of the most exciting, and complete, beat tapes (and I hate to even call them that because they are really fully realized instrumental LPs) of the last half-decade. But still to...

Kool Keith f/ Megabone ”The Game Is Free” (2011, Junkadelic Music) (prod. by Junkaz Lou) Arguably rap’s original weirdo (apologies to Wizard Wiz) returns with a new single, “The Game Is Free”, replete with paganism, Lovecraft references, female objectification, non-sequiturs (“stamina great, she wanna take me on a boat cruise”) and a Cee-Lo-invoking...

Interview: Z-RO: Life & Lyrics →
AllHipHop.com: The first time I heard Cocaine it went so hard. It sounded like an album. Then when I heard snippets from Heroin, it sounded like you just remixed songs from the Cocaine mixtape. What happened with that?  Z-Ro: We are on speaking terms right now, [but] at that time during the Cocaine era and the Heroin era [we weren’t]. That was the era that I quit submitting songs. I was like,...

Young Thug- I Came From Nothing Mixtape →
Speaking of great tracks “Eat U Alive” is on heavy rotation for me as well. Matthew Schnipper from Fader already talked about it but Young Thug has a great voice, a sort of pre-pubescent Wayne croak. He also has an excellent ear for grandiose beats anchored by an 808, which sort of makes this a consummate Atlanta mixtape. -Flex
