Published in 2005, I had no idea this existed...
Has anyone read it? If so, would you recommend doing so?

DJ Quik “Luv Of My Life” (2011, Mad Science)
I have a lot of things to say about The Book Of David, and hopefully they’ll be up in the next day or two.
In the meantime, check out this video from the record’s first single.

Oh hai. You guys should probably mention that this mix was compiled by Matt Miller, director of the excellent and sadly still unreleased Bounce documentary Ya Heard Me.
I should’ve. Didn’t realize this aka lazy reblogging.

Kristmas- W-2 Boy Album Trailer (Slow Motion Soundz, 2011)
Slow Motion Soundz affiliate Kristmas releases his album W-2 Boy tomorrow through SMS, and here’s a trailer for it. There’s also a pretty good track available at Southern Hospitality. Kristmas is a dude with verbal skill and a huge personality, evidenced by his guest spots on Huntsville International and THE ONE from G-Side....

Okay let’s all take a break from EARLGATE to discuss some new music that share some thematic and musical references, both rapped and un-rapped.
Clams Casino- “Gorilla” (from Rainforest EP, out 6/27 on Tri Angle Records)
One of the most underrated aspects of Clams’ ethereal, otherworldly beatwork is how hard it hits. On some tracks, the loping, ramshackle pace of the...

Anonymous asked: Record sales can actually definitely turn a profit for these little labels. They've got nothing even close to the overhead that majors have to deal with, but they're still selling - XL has a bunch of gold records under their belt, Fat Possum moves a ton of records for an indie. Those are both definitely profitable enterprises.

Clams Casino Signs To Tri Angle Records →
1. Congrats to Clams. Extremely talented and humble dude, and I’m sincerely excited that his work is reaching a wider audience.
2. The larger question I have in all of this (re: Tyler to XL, MellowHype to Fat Possum, Danny Brown to Fool’s Gold, and now Clams to Tri Angle): what kind of “deals” are these labels putting on the table for artists with primarily internet-based...

Complex: E-40 Breaks Down his 25 Most Essential... →
willystaley:
Got to talk to the boy 40 Water about his 25 Most Essential tracks for Complex Mag. I have been an E-40 dork since I was, like, 12 years old, so this was a real treat. I also hated on a lot of his mainstream stuff on the internet pretty hard, so it was interesting to see how not-manufactured some of his more manufactured-sounding stuff was. That is the difference between music...
