We’re trying to let everybody have access to quality music.
– Codie G
Yeah, we quote Codie quite a bit around here, but it’s hard not to when the man is dropping serious knowledge every time he opens his mouth.
Aspiring artists: FIND YOUR CODIE G!!!

HUMANSUIT (Mestizo & Isaiah Toothtaker) “Live At The Low End Theory” (08/18/10)
The energy of this performance is off the charts. Even the hipsters in the front get caught up.
Cop Mestizo’s new record, Elecholo (2010, Alpha Pup/Machina Muerte), here. It’s full of solid technical rapping over grimy, industrial dub beats. If you’ve never heard him before, here...

– via DJ Burn One’s Twitter about the upcoming single off The Naked Soul of Sweet Jones set to feature Drake. This is a movement I can get behind.

Company presses your ashes into vinyl when you die →
The process of setting human ashes into vinyl involves a very understanding pressing plant. Basically the ashes must be sprinkled onto the raw piece of vinyl (known as a “biscuit” or “puck”) before it is pressed by the plates. This means that when the plates exert their pressure on the vinyl in order to create the grooves, the ashes are pressed into the record.

The basic package...

Happy #Bornday to The Trill Connection →
Hard to believe it’s been (over) a year for Percy Mack and The Trill Connection. Along with the Southern Hospitality fam, Percy was the first to reach out to me at the old spot (actually, really even before then), and has remained a strong supporter of Flex and I since.
In a culture where most of what is posted and written is met with great indifference, it’s a good feeling when...

Country Rap 2: G-Side in NYC →
NYC, I’ll see you here on Saturday. I wish I could stick around for the whole week to see all these interesting panels and documentaries, but checking out G-Side’s first NYC show should be well worth it (hosted by the homies at Baller’s Eve).

Double J: The Unkut Interview →
“From his independent heater ‘Cannibal Town’, through to his The Hitman album and his work as a member of the Maniac Mob on The D&D Project, founding Flavor Unit soldier Double J has been doing his thing to rep Jersey City over the years without getting caught out by the music game.”

2 From the Junk Heap
For some reason the blogs have a rather unjustified approach towards showing love to new artists. It’s random to a point of absurdity, sometimes. So here are two songs I posted back on my old blog that just never made the rounds for some reason, though personally they stand as two of the best songs of the year.
Mr. 706 and Lil Bruh- “Da Hell Wid Ch’yll”
I know...

Roach Gigz Does Commentary for NPR
So apparently Roach Gigz (aka Orlando Campbell) used to do commentary for NPR? He’s got a whole slew of commentaries that he did for Youth Radio that were picked up nationwide for NPR a couple years back, and they’re pretty insightful and interesting, especially in light of his video for “Pop Off”. It’s hard to say this guy doesn’t “get it”. Also, he...

DJ Kid Slizzard Presents: For The Weed Smokers... →
I feel compelled to share almost all of what KS does over at Twankle & Glisten (because I’m a reposter, not a blogger), but these cassette mixes are especially great. This is the fifth installment in the T&G mix series, and will undoubtedly serve as my weekend soundtrack to exploring the Bay.
Many of these tracks, like “Roll Something,” “Coughee,”...
